RIDING LESSONS

Your safety is our biggest concern here at Woodridge Farm. So for novice riders we start at the beginning, on the ground, teaching the skills you will need to create a safe environment when you are on horseback. We believe in success, and through our program you will learn step by step the building blocks needed to be successful in horses and horseback riding. We start beginners with private lessons so you receive individual one on one attention, and are allowed to learn at your own pace.

Lessons are conducted in a fun, safe, and informative manner and given with patience. Various exercises and games are used to help enhance the student's understanding, balance, and abilities.

Typical lessons (using one of my horses) are given for an hour which includes grooming, tacking/untacking, horsemanship, and ride time. Lessons generally include both mounted and unmounted instruction, and will include horse training theory since every time you ride or handle a horse you are training it -- good or bad. The purpose is to make competent horse people (not just horse users) -- We want you to feel confident and safe around the large animals, to be able to provide the care necessary for our equine friends' well-being, to handle most horses in most common situations, to safely ride a variety of horses in a variety of situations (not just be a passenger), and understand the nature of the equine to prevent and correct common horse behavioral problems. The balance of horsemanship along with the riding better prepares students to become horse owners.

For more advanced students or those with their own horse/pony, work begins with assessing rider balance, learning horse communication tools through position and movement, and working on becoming a better horse/rider team.
